Frequently asked questions
What does it mean when a planet is retrograde?
Seen from Earth, the planet appears to move backward through the zodiac for a few weeks. It is an effect of perspective, because Earth and the planet orbit at different speeds. In astrology it is usually read as a time to review rather than to start.
How do I know which sign the Moon is in?
The Moon moves through all 12 signs in about 27 days and spends about two and a half days in each. This page shows the current sign, when the Moon entered it and when it enters the next one, in New York time.
What is the difference between the Moon's phase and the Moon's sign?
The phase comes from the angle between the Sun and the Moon (new, waxing, full, waning) and repeats every 29.5 days. The sign is the Moon's position in the zodiac and changes every two to three days.
Where does this data come from?
From astronomical calculation done on our server with the astronomy-engine library, the same one used in our birth chart. Nothing is copied from another site or written by hand.
Geocentric positions, tropical zodiac, calculated with the astronomy-engine library. A planet is retrograde when its ecliptic longitude decreases from one day to the next; start and end dates are the stations found by a daily scan, accurate to within a few hours. The page is recalculated every hour. Astrology is a tool for reflection, not prediction.
